Scientists say they’ve discovered the reason behind Mars’ red hue,and the finding has new implications for the planet’s environment and ability to host life. It was previously thought the red coloring came from the presence of hematite,but it’s now believed that ferrihydrite lends to the color,which means that water and oxygen were present in the atmosphere.
