An area of heavy rain and thunderstorms moved through portions of Oklahoma late Thursday morning,prompting a flash flood emergency.
Firefighters performed more than a dozen high-water rescues in the Oklahoma City metro area when drivers became stranded in their vehicles,Lt. Ray Lujan told NewsOK.com. Numerous roads were closed due to flooding,including parts of northbound Interstate 235.
More than 2 inches of rain fell in short time, resulting in flash flooding in several locations. Edmond,just north of Oklahoma City,measured 4.4 inches of rain Thursday morning.
Cars were nearly completely submerged in The Village,the National Weather Service said,and some businesses were possibly flooded as well.
Cars were also stranded due to flooding near Nichols Hills, and water flowed inside an office building in Oklahoma City.

The heaviest rainfall has shifted south of the Oklahoma City metro area as of early Thursday afternoon. Flooding concerns continue with these storms and in Alex,Oklahoma, southwest of Oklahoma City,flooding was reported at city hall.
